Our staff members are all specially trained in the treatment of common mental health problems and will be happy to provide you with support either by telephone, online or face to face at a venue which is close to where you live (i.e. GP surgery or community venue)

You may have contact with one of the following:

Therapy Support Worker

These practitioners deliver 2a interventions (Anxiety or Depression Groups, cCBT, TGSH). TSW’s can help by providing you with the materials you need (such as workbooks) to overcome your difficulties. This is a very proactive treatment and requires you to be in a position to be able to work in a guided way with the practitioner both throughout and in-between appointments. You will be set ‘homework’ at the end of each session and this will be reviewed at the next appointment along with regular completion and review of standardised questionnaires.

PWP (Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner)

Offering a mixture of the above along with face to face guided self help. As above this is a very collaborative approach to helping you gain the tools you need to move towards your treatment goals. Not only will the PWP endeavor to provide you with skills and techniques to assist with symptom reduction they will liaise closely with other professionals involved in your care and signpost you to other agencies if this is felt to be beneficial. Your progress will be regularly reviewed to ensure you are supporting you towards recovery.

High Intensity Therapist

HIT’s provide talking therapy at step 3 and it is probably that people who are accessing this have started to notice some improvement at the previous step and have found the low intensity interventions useful but require more specific support for their difficulties. At step 3 HIT’s will aim to help you to develop a deeper understanding of your current difficulties and provide you with the skills you need to break free from unhelpful thinking styles and coping strategies which may be maintaining your current difficulties. As with the previous steps this is a proactive treatment which requires a collaborative relationship between therapist and the person accessing the service and this will be reviewed by ‘homework’ tasks and regular review of standardised questionnaires.

All of our staff are dedicated to supporting patients to help with the best possible outcomes to improve mental health and wellbeing of people in County Durham and Darlington.

What people who have received our support say

In order to constantly improve the service we offer to our patients we regularly collect patient feedback. The information provided below is a small sample of the comments we have received recently from people who have used our service.

We are interested in your honest opinions, whether they are positive or negative. If you would like to provide us with your valuable feedback please ask your therapist about our patient experience questionnaires.

CBT has helped me to start enjoying my life again by controlling my anxiety and worry so that it is now more manageable. I was checking my 11 month old son up to 28 times per night as I was scared ‘something bad’ might happen to him. CBT therapy has helped me to reduce these checking behaviours to 3 times per night. CBT takes hard work and determination but there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Never give up.

I thought my therapist was excellent. He helped me to identify and face my worries, anxieties and concerns. He provided and suggested techniques and strategies to help me to deal with them. He has helped me to improve the quality of my life. I have had every faith in him and owe him a great deal. I am going to try my best to continue to apply these strategies to all aspects of my life and control my worrying. I would have no hesitation in recommending your excellent service to anyone with anxieties. Many thanks to my therapist and your excellent service.

Having been referred to Talking Changes for therapy after years of suffering with panic attacks, my therapist has been very understanding, helpful and most of all committed to helping me overcome my difficulties with anxiety. I would recommend anyone who is in a similar situation to access therapy sooner rather than later.
